Growing Up Blog

I love looking back on things and talking about memories from my childhood, so that is why I decided to write this Blog.

Even although I have a disability, growing up was fantastic. I loved my childhood, I have a great family, I went to two great schools and I went a great club. I made some great memories.

Let start with my primary school. I went Kelboume primary school. Kelboume had a nursery, so I did 3 years in the nursery and 7 years in school. I was there for 10 years which were the best 10 years. It was a fantastic school. All of teachers and the support staff were fantastic and I did really well at that school. I was very sad to leave but I needed to move on.

From there I went to Ashcraig secondary school. It was a fantastic school too. I found it difficult moving from Kelboume to Ashcraig because Kelboume was a quite small school and Ashcraig was quite big and also, I was just in 1 classroom in Kelboume but in Ashcraig I was moving between classrooms, but I got used to it. I really liked Ashcraig and got on really well over the 6 years that I was there. As Ashcraig was secondary there were exams and because of Ashcraig was special needs school we did access units, this what I did for most of my subjects, but I sat 2 exams: geography and botany. Even although I tried my best with them, I didn't pass but it was just exams and looking back I didn't need to pass to be where I am today. Except for these exams I came on well at Ashcraig. I was a different person when I left Ashcraig from when I started.

Kelboume and Ashcraig were fantastic schools and very supportive.

My life outside school was great. I spent a lot of time with my family. we went out and on caravan holidays which it was a lot of fun. I went swimming and brownies, I went to concerts, I had a bike and also, I went to a special needs club called Buddie. I went to Buddies on a Sunday afternoon and during school holidays. At Buddies we had a lot of fun and laughs and also, we went to a lot of difficult places like swimming, bowling, skating, softplay, M&Ds and many more. The staff at Buddies were fantastic, I really built great friendships with some of the staff and now I call them my friends still. Sadly, one of the staff who I was very close to passed away 14 years ago and I took it hard. So, Buddies was a big part of my childhood.

Looking back, I wouldn't change anything about my childhood.

My family has always been very supportive, and they always have included me, especially my Mum, Dad and my big sister. What they did, I did! We went on holidays, out for dinners, to family parties and lots more. I am really lucky to have a family like mine.
Once I left school, I went to college for 5 years where I did employability/citizenship and ECDL. Then I worked in Cerebral Palsy Scotland for 5 years and now I am a volunteer Blogger for TAG and also, I am a volunteer with Pamis as a Changing Places
 campaigner.

Like everyone, I have dreams and my dreams are to write a book, see some more places in the world and host the programme Noel's house party with Mr. Blobby.... I can dream!!
