Meet The Toilet Woman

Part from Blogging I do a lot of campaigning.

I started campaigning in 2014 after discovering how limited my life had become due to the lack of accessible toilet facilities. As I require a hoist to use the toilet, standard accessible toilets did not meet my needs, and I often found that I could not go to many places because there were no suitable facilities available.

This led me to begin campaigning for more Changing Places toilets. These toilets provide the extra space and equipment that many disabled people need, including a height-adjustable changing bench, a ceiling hoist and enough room for a wheelchair user and up to two carers.

There is more information about my campaign elsewhere on this website, but I am proud of what has been achieved. When I started campaigning, there were only two Changing Places toilets in Glasgow. Today, there are 26, including facilities at Central Station, Queen Street Station, the Riverside Museum, the Burrell Collection, Glasgow Science Centre and Kelvin Hall.

These facilities have made a huge difference to my life and to the lives of many other disabled people, giving us greater independence and freedom to travel.

My greatest achievement was helping to secure the installation of a Changing Places toilet at Clydebank Shopping Centre. Seeing that project become a reality showed me that campaigning can create real change and make communities more accessible for everyone.
