The history of news

Here is two pieces that I wrote about history of news and how news is changing

Since 1900, the world of newspapers has changed a lot because of developments in technology, media, the internet, television, and radio. Newspaper production has become faster and more digital, which means that people can receive news much more quickly than before.

One of the biggest turning points in newspaper production was the development of better printing technology in the early 1900s. The introduction of new printing machinery made printing faster and cheaper. Newspapers could reach a lot more people because production became quicker and more efficient.

Radio was a big turning point because people could listen throughout the day and receive hourly news updates. This was much quicker than waiting for newspapers every day to find out what was happening in the world.

Television was another huge turning point because, like radio, people could receive news updates throughout the day. However, with television, people could actually see what was happening for themselves. They could watch interviews and important events, which helped audiences understand what was really going on in the world. For example, many people watched the Queen’s Coronation on television, showing how powerful TV had become as a source of news and information.

One of the biggest turning points was the internet and digital technology, as everything was starting to use computers more. The world of newspapers also started to use computers, which meant that news could spread much quicker. People could read news with just a click of a mouse, and it became easier for journalists to get their work published online.   Many newspapers also created their own websites so readers could access news online at any time. This means that the  printed newspaper sales dropped, but journalists could publish stories instantly

Social media was another big turning point in the newspaper world. Today, many people use their phones for everything and go on social media platforms such as Facebook or Instagram to see the news. Most newspapers now have social media pages, which means they can compete with other newspapers online and reach more people quickly. However, although social media has been a big change in the newspaper industry, it can also spread a lot of fake news and misinformation.  Social media also allows newspapers to reach younger audiences who may not buy printed newspapers anymore. News can now spread worldwide within minutes.

Overall, newspapers have changed a lot since 1900 as the world has been introduced to more technology and digital media, such as radio, television, and social media. People can now receive and see the news much quicker than in the past. For journalists, it has become easier and cheaper to get their work published and shared around the world.

Nowadays, anyone can share news, pictures, information, videos, and opinions online through social media and internet websites. In the past, newspapers and traditional broadcasters were the main sources of news, but today people can share almost anything by using a phone, websites, or apps. This has had a major effect on newspapers and traditional broadcasting.

One huge effect on newspapers is that many people now use the internet to read the news for free. Because of this, newspapers have lost a lot of readers and now have to compete with online posts where news can spread much quicker.

Traditional broadcasters have also been affected because many people now watch news online, for example on Facebook or TikTok. Broadcasters now have to use social media as well, which means television and radio audiences have become smaller. However, on the positive side, news is now available around the clock. This is much different from the past when people could only receive news once a day.

Another huge effect nowadays is that everyone can become their own publisher through using social media or personal blogs. Even though this can help news spread quicker, it can also be quite dangerous because people may share false information or fake news, especially about famous people. A good example of fake news was when rumours about Dolly Parton spread online, making fans believe that she did not have much time left to live, even though this was not true

One of the biggest effects on newspapers in recent years is that many people are now creating blogs about travel, food, lifestyle, health, and much more. Because of this, people are reading blogs more often than newspapers, as blogs can feel more personal and easier to relate to.

YouTube and TikTok have been huge changes in how people receive and share news over the years. People can upload videos of real-life events such as fires, protests, or music concerts as they happen. Many people, especially younger audiences, now use these platforms to get news rather than reading newspapers or watching television news. Because of these platforms, journalists and broadcasters now feel they have more competition when publishing news than ever before.

Another huge effect is citizen journalism. This has become a big rise because many people are now filming news events and uploading them online, which allows news to spread much quicker, sometimes even before journalists get there. However, this is also how a lot of fake news and misinformation can spread online.

Overall, as we are all publishers now, it has changed newspapers and traditional broadcasters in many ways. Social media, TikTok, YouTube, and blogs have made it much easier to share and receive news, especially for younger people. However, newspapers and broadcasters are now facing a lot of competition and problems such as fake news spreading online. Even though this issue is ongoing, newspapers and broadcasters still play a big role in delivering news around the world
